Throgs Neck Bridge

Trevcon Construction was awarded a major design-build contract in early 2024 from MTA Construction & Development for Tower Fender Protection and Tower Painting at the Throgs Neck Bridge.

Trevcon is currently in the process of designing new fender systems and security fencing to protect bridge towers from vessel collision, as well as modernizing systems at the bridge, including tower elevators, decorative tower floodlighting, tower interior lighting, and fire protection improvements such as marine standpipes and fireboat mooring platforms. The project also calls for solutions to extend the service life of the bridge and reduce future maintenance requirements, including tower painting, inspection and repair of the bridge main cable and suspender ropes, as well as tower pedestal and strut concrete repairs and waterproofing.

Bridge painting and concrete repairs are well underway, and Trevcon recently began installation of the precast/prestressed concrete piles that will serve as the foundation for the new fender system. Replacement of the existing fender systems will begin in early 2025 with all new tower fender protection scheduled to be in place by the end of the year.
