This project is located at the sludge transfer pier at the Tallman Island Water Pollution Control Plant in Queens, NY. The work involved demolition and reconstruction of Piers 1 and 2. Pier 1 presented the challenge of having to demolish a pier located above two active plant outfalls without causing disturbance. The new replacement piers supported by steel pipes topped with precast pile caps, supporting precast soffit deck slabs and cast-in-place concrete deck toppings. Both piers contain new 20” sludge transfer lines, electric service and new timber fencing systems.
