Trevcon Construction Co., Inc. performed the rehabilitation of two existing bulkheads under separate contracts for the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) and the New York City Parks Department (NYC PARKS) in Belle Harbor and Rockaway Park, Queens, New York. The NYCDOT bulkhead contract consisted of the installation of approximately 5,600LF of new bulkhead in front of the existing aging concrete sea wall and steel sheet pile bulkhead running along Beach Channel Drive. The NYC PARKS bulkhead contract consisted of the installation of approximately 1,100LF of new bulkhead in front of a failing steel sheet pile wall and timber bulkhead located at the site of a former PSEG/National Grid manufactured gas plant recently acquired by the city. Both contracts consisted of new steel sheet pile walls installed in front of the old bulkheads, drilled soil anchors, earth retention systems and a cast-in-place concrete pile cap. A small section of the NYC PARKS contract consisted of a special King Pile Wall system which was required due to environmentally impacted soils from the former MGP site. The NYCDOT contract also included the repair and rehabilitation of existing storm water outfalls located at the ends of each of the 22 blocks within the contract work. All contract work was self-performed by Trevcon Construction Co., Inc.
