This $19.2 million contract was for the marine portion of the NYC Ferry Homeport II project. Once upland work is completed and the facility is operational, it will serve as a maintenance facility for Citywide Ferries as well as a home base for berthing the vessels. Included in the construction of the project were a combination of 30″ O.D. x 1.00″ W.T. and 36″ O.D. x 1.25″ W.T. steel pipe piles for the monopiles and anchor piles and 24″ square precast concrete piles at 90′ lengths attached to HP18x157 stingers for the travel lift piers. Two 100′ x 20′ precast floating docks were assembled in a dry dock and secured in place by eight anchor piles. A total of 81 pipe piles and 34 precast piles were installed for this project. Donut fenders were installed on all the monopiles, and precast concrete pile caps and planks were installed on the precast piles to construct the travel lift piers.
Once operational, Homeport II will assist in further facilitating the growth of NYC’s waterfront transportation system. A second home base for the ferries will allow for a larger fleet and the maintenance facility will ensure the vessels will be maintained and in the best operational condition.
