Global Container Terminals

Client: Global Container Terminals (GCT) Bayonne LP

This $47.4 million project is an extension of the existing shipping wharf at Berth 2, located in the Port Liberty Global Container Terminal (GCT) Facility in Bayonne/Jersey City, NJ. GCT Berth 3 features a sloped cast in place deck, complete with embedded utilities, crane pits, stowage pins, tiedowns, bollards and fenders as well as two continuous new steel crane rails. The construction of the project included a capped sheet pile wall incorporating several existing outfalls. Precast caps were spliced to span over seven rows of 24″ & 30″ square concrete piles. Precast caps were cast into landside & waterside crane rail beams at each end with seven each precast planks reaching cap to cap atop a layered rip-rap revetment consisting of over 40,000 tons of stone ranging in diameter from 6″ to 36″.

The purpose of the project is to create a new industrial marine shipping terminal for international cargo. The new pier is designed to expand from the existing Berth 2 terminal and join the two gantry crane rails seamlessly to expanding Eastward adding more usable real estate to assemble, install and utilize four new gantry cranes. The finished Berth 3 terminal will allow the facility to unload more ships in a shorter amount of time increasing the capacity and productivity of the port.

Global Terminals Berth 3 is Trevcon’s latest addition to the newly rebranded Port Liberty Bayonne on Port Jersey Blvd. Jersey City, NJ. It is located directly Southwest of the Statue of Liberty on the New York Harbor. The newly constructed 150,000+SF wharf is only one of several expansion projects planned for Port Liberty Bayonne. Some of these include a repair to existing Berth 1, already contracted out to Trevcon, as well as another continuation of the new wharf from Berth 3 expanding East toward the harbor.
